Sally Ann Weeks Benson Collection

Abstract Sally Ann Weeks Benson (b. 1947), from Aiken, South Carolina, served as an officer in the United States Navy from July of 1981 to August of 2002.

Included in this collection are a 2015 oral history interview, military papers, correspondence, photographs, artifacts, uniforms, and other textiles. Much of the material in the collection focuses on her postings in Meridian, Mississippi and Sasebo, Japan.

Sir Walter Besant Manuscript

Abstract Walter Besant (1836-1901) was an English author and social critic. The signed manuscript in this collection is contained in a case bearing the title "Queen Victoria's Jubilee," and explores social improvements in England under the reign of Queen Victoria.

Department of Biology Records

Abstract The Department of Biology in the College of Arts and Science was initially part of the Department of Science in 1892. It became its own Department of Biology in 1905. It is responsible for the University's undergraduate and graduate curricula in biology.

The records of the Department of Biology contains correspondence, memorandums, laboratory manuals, newsletters, proposals and annual reports which document the activities of the Department from 1932-2005.

Black Mountain College Collection

Abstract Elizabeth "Betsy" Summer Blee (b. 1951) served in Ground Supply and as a Mess Officer in the Marine Corps from 1975-1981, and in the Marine Corps Reserves from 1981-1997. Included are her papers, artifacts and pictures from her time in the military, largely focusing on the 1970s.

Abstract Ennio Bolognini (1893-1979) was an Argentine-born cellist, composer, conductor, pilot, and professional boxer. Bolognini began studying cello performance with his father (Egidio Bolognini), completing his education with Jose Garca at the St. Celicia Conservatory in Buenos Aires. He debuted as a soloist at twelve years of age, winning the Luigi Rovatti cello (presently in thecollection of the Smithsonian) at an Ibero-American International competition.
