Lettie Hamlett Rogers (1917-1957), the child of missionaries, spent her girlhood in China and Japan, before attending Woman's College (now UNCG), where she later became a professor of creative writing. She published four novels in her lifetime.

The Lettie Hamlett Rogers Papers date from 1940 to 1957 and contain typed manuscripts of her works.

O. E. Rolvaag (1876-1931) was a Norwegian-American novelist and educator. This collection dates from 1927 to 1928 and includes two letters written to critic Harry Hansen of the New York World.

The Department of Romance Languages was created in 1916 with the merging of the Spanish and French curriculums. Today, the Department includes the languages of French, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese.

Patricia Ann Roney (1923-1994?), of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, served in the United States Navy WAVES (Women Accepted for Voluntary Emergency Service) from 1944-1946. Included in this collection are Roney's scrapbook and diary.

Anna Eleanor Roosevelt (1884-1962) was an American first lady, a humanitarian in her own right, and a United Nations diplomat. This letter was written to the students at Woman's College (now UNCG) in appreciation of flowers they had presented to her.

Buren Rose (1919-2018) of Jefferson City, Missouri, served in the United States civil service at the San Antonio Aviation Cadet Center (now Lackland Air Force Base) where she was the driver for Colonel Morris Taber from 1942 to 1943.

The collection includes a 2008 November 5 oral history transcript.

The Rotary Club of Greensboro was founded in January 1917, making it one of the earliest Rotary Clubs to be formed after the creation of the first Rotary Club in 1902. The Club has grown from its first 42 members to include over 300 business professionals in the Greensboro area.

Margaret Rowlett (1897-1963) was an alumna of Woman's College (now UNCG), and a popular illustrator, textile designer, and author of children's books. The Margaret Rowlett Papers date from 1947 to 1962 and contain manuscripts, artwork, stationery, correspondence and clippings.

Louise E. Roy’s scrapbooks document her time with the American Red Cross Supplemental Recreational Activities Overseas (SRAO) from 1942-1945. The photographs depict images from Hawaii, Guam, and San Francisco showing landscapes, wildlife, colleagues, and military vehicles. Also included are maps, postcards, and news articles.

Mary Dell Rudd graduated from Curry High School, Greensboro, in 1936. This collection dates from 1925 to 1936 and contains correspondence, greeting cards, two scrapbooks, school programs, dance cards, photographs and other ephemera.

The collection includes an oral history transcript, 8 May 2007; various photograph copies of Ruffin's while stationed in Iraq completing duties, hanging out with fellow soldiers, and exploring the landscape, 2003.

John Ruskin (1819-1900) was a British author, art historian, and architectural critic. This letter was written by Ruskin to his publisher in 1880: "I send you a phot[ograph] from my sketch of Amiens folk - now destroyed by Violet le Duc -- can you set in hand a pretty vignette from it..."

Edith Russell was a student of the State Normal and Industrial College, graduating in 1919 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Russell and her husband, Herschel R. Harrington, founded Harrington-Russell Studios in 1930.

Florence Rutherford was a student of the North Carolina College for Women, graduating in 1928 with a Bachelor's degree in English. Rutherford was a member of the Cornelian Society, Education Club, and French Club.

The Florence Rutherford Scrapbook consists of materials dating from 1925 to 1927. Among its contents are photographs, event programs, tickets, invitations, permission cards, correspondence, newspaper clippings, and party memorabilia.

The collection contains approximately 120 letters and v-mail written by Lola Ryan to her parents and brother. Ryan discusses her experiences of being a nurse in basic training, the conditions in wartime France, German prisoners of war, her experiences as a wartime nurse, and her longing to return home and be discharged from the army.

Tim Sandlin was born in Oklahoma in 1950. He attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro to receive his M.F.A. in Creative Writing. He is an American novelist and screenwriter, and he has published 10 novels and a book of columns.

The collection contains personal materials, publicity and publishing materials, audiovisual materials, and manuscript drafts of Sandlin's novels, screenplays, and essays.

Margaret Elizabeth Munson Sangster (1838-1912) was an American children's author, poet, and editor. The correspondence in this collection dates from 1884 to 1905 and pertains to the authors' work for Ladies Home Journal.

Eveline Y. Santy (1919-2008) served in the United States Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) and the Women's Army Corps (WAC) from 1943-1945.

The collection includes a service diary, military ID button, a military publication, and training manual.

Frances Gibson Satterfield was a freelance journalist and an active alumna of the Woman's College (now the University of North Carolina at Greensboro).

The Frances Gibson Satterfield Papers date from 1889 to 1988 and contain research material and manuscript copies of her commemorative booklet about Charles Duncan McIver, a travel journal, personal correspondence, and photographs.

This collection contains one book of reflections, edited by Marion Saunders, with poetry, essays, school materials, and publication excerpts.

Dr. Jeannette Saurborn taught physical education in public elementary schools in Michigan and New York. This collection contains notes, correspondence, clippings and educational materials related to physical education for children.

Florence Louise Schaeffer joined the Chemistry Department at the Woman's College (now UNCG) in 1922. She became Department Head in 1934 and taught at the College until 1973.

Katherine Yoder Scharrer was a member of the graduating class of 1922 at the North Carolina College for Women (NCCW), now known as UNCG. This collection dates from 1923 to 1977 and primarily consists of correspondence to Scharrer from her husband Andrew (Andy) Scharrer and her mother Emily Manetta Asbury Yoder.

Jessie Rosenberg Schell is a freelance writer who received both her bachelor's degree and an MFA in creative writing from UNCG. This collection contains an undated draft copy of her 1977 novel, Sudina.

Carl Heinrich Schnauffer (1822-1854) was a German political poet, soldier, and editor who emigrated to the U.S. in 1851.

The Carl Heinrich Schnauffer Papers date from 1844 to 1871 and contain correspondence, manuscripts in various states of completeness, student notebooks, memorabilia, and miscellaneous items, including a medical chest.

Caroline Schoch was born on November 19, 1880 in Iowa. She was a Professor and Head of the German Department at Women’s College (University of North Carolina at Greensboro). Miss Schoch taught German language, literature, art, music, and drama from 1918 to 1949. She died on August 12, 1961 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The School of Human Environmental Sciences was created in 1987, with Home Economics being at UNCG since 1892. In 2011 it was merged with several other departments and programs to become the School of Health and Human Sciences. The department is now defunct.
