Biographical / Historical

Eveline Y. Santy (1919-2008) served in the United States Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) and the Women's Army Corps (WAC) from 1943-1945. Santy was born in Kirby, Vermont, on September 29, 1919. At the young age of three, Santy was adopted by an Ira and Rosalba Santy. A 1937 graduate of Pittsfield High School located in Berkshire County, Massachusetts, a close neighbor to Vermont.

Santy enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps (WAC) in 1943 and was sent to the Army Air Force Technical Training Command at Gulfport Field, Mississippi. Honorably Discharged in 1945, she quickly re-joined as a member of the Reserves and remained in this branch until 1979. Not much else is known about Santy’s time in the WAC or her many years with the Reserves.

After retirement from the Reserves in 1979 and quickly after from her job at General Electric in 1980, she remained busy in later years with local chapters and clubs in the Pittsfield area. Santy passed away in Pittsfield on March 30, 2008, at the age of 88.
