Helen R. Allegrone (1921-2009) of Cambridge, Massachusetts, served in cryptography in the United States Navy WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) from March 1943 until 1945.

The collection includes an oral history transcript and 1 photograph of Allegrone with matching photo negative.

Abstract

Nettie Marvin Allen of Henderson, North Carolina, attended the State Normal and Industrial School (now UNCG) from 1892-1895.

The collection contains her Physics notes from the academic year 1894-1895 and her Laboratory Manual of General Chemistry from 1893. Her scrapbook, entitled Among My Souvenirs, contains programs, photographs and autographs and comments from people she met through 1938.

Steve Almond (1967- ) received his Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from UNCG in 1997. Almond is the winner of the 2002 Pushcart Prize and the 2005 Alex Award (Young Adult Library Service Association). This collection includes manuscripts of Almond's published short stories, essays, and monographs, as well as several unpublished works.
