Anthony Mario Ludovici Papers, 1938 - 1970
The notebook (50 leaves, leaf 5 torn out) contains Chapter XV of an unidentified novel, a critique of Mystery of the Androgyne by Theodore J. Faithfull, and four chapters of a draft of a novel, Unchartered Seas.
There are also 15 letters written by Ludovici to his friend, Francis Bickley. The letters date from 1949 to 1970.
Wallace Stegner Letter, 1970
Stegner's letter to Donna Ore, UNCG class of 1973, deals with his story, Chip off the Old Block. It appears Ore had written Stegner concerning a term paper topic comparing Stegner's own childhood with the childhood portrayed in the story.
Richard Le Gallienne Letter, 1930
This letter, written in Paris and dated 10 July 1930, is addressed to "Mr. Knoll," who was apparently a young admirer of Le Gallienne's works, particularly his "lines on war." Le Gallienne writes: "I value your appreciation the more because you are so young, for it gives me hopes that the young men of your generation will resist to the utmost the foolish 'call to arms', which alas!, for all the tragic lessons of the last 'Great War', seems all too likely to come."

This original holograph manuscript of A Small World is a tale about an American injured in Spain and the woman who nurses him back to health. It was collected in Tomaso's Fortune and Other Stories in 1904.

This signed original holograph manuscript is an apparently unpublished play, Grand-dad, or, The Spirit of the British Navy. The cast of characters includes: Grand-dad Pettigrew (an old veteran), Mr. Sailor-man (a quartermaster), Tummus (a boy, Grand-dad's great-grandson), Mrs. Pettigrew (Grand-dad's grandson's wife, Tummus' mother), Selina and her baby (Mrs. Pettigrew's niece), and Mrs. Hawkins (Selina's mother-in-law).
Maria C. Rendleman Document, 1858
Manuscript teaching contract dated March 26, 1858 made with Maria Rendleman, who agreed to teach at the Public School House of District No. 25 Rowan County, North Carolina, for the term of three months. Included are the names of five subscribers who agree to pay Miss Rendleman seventy-five cents per scholar per month. Miss Rendleman agreed to teach Orthography, Reading, Writing, Arithmetic, History, Grammar and Geography.
Valentine de Lamartine Letter, 1870
The letter in this collection is written in French by Lamartine's niece, Valentine, to an unknown "Monsieur et cher ami". Dated "1 Avril 1870" (April 1, 1870), it appears to be a lament about the sale of her uncle's property and perhaps the settlement of his estate. She is entreating the unknown recipient to help her with pricing certain articles, and signs the letter "Valentine de Lamartine, 135 avenue de L'empereur".

This collection includes an autographed poem signed "J.P." entitled "Earl Morie - a Ballad" with an autograph note at the foot, undated. The poem is a sad story of the death of the Earl sung by one who also seeks "the Field of Glory." The note identifies the poem as "One of my Bagatelle songs for Moira."
John Ruskin Letter, 1880
The letter in this collection is written by Ruskin from Brantwood to his publisher, and is dated December 29, 1880: "I send you a phot[ograph] from my sketch of Amiens folk - now destroyed by Violet le Duc -- can you set in hand a pretty vignette from it..."

The 1988 letter to the Alumni News is from Winifred M. Reid, and encloses the other two other letters in the collection.
The 1919 letter is from Rebekah McClain (Stroupe), who gives a very good description of the "Y" Hut and mentions the flu epidemic. The 1928 letter is from Eulalie Elliott (Reid), who shares memories of her year here and tells of a return visit to the campus in 1942.

Lydia L. Rawlins Papers, 1845 - 1846
This collection contains Lydia Rawlins' manuscript diary, accompanied by two letters written to Lydia Rawlins. Lydia Rawlins was a schoolteacher and daughter of a preacher who lived in Manila, Indiana. When the diary begins she is teaching in Addison, Township in Shelby County, Indiana. Lydia was very religious and held anti-slavery views. Her diary covers the tension within her church regarding the issue of slavery and how the issue affected her faith.
