Abstract Dr. Warren Ashby, professor of religious studies at UNCG from 1949 until his death in 1985, gathered these materials for the purpose of writing a biography of Frank Porter Graham (FPG). His book, Frank Porter Graham: a Southern Liberal, was published in 1980 after more than twenty years of research.

Abstract This collection contains the personal papers and official records of Julius Isaac Foust (1865-1946), second president of the North Carolina State Normal and Industrial College now known as The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Taking up leadership of the school after the untimely death of founding president Charles Duncan McIver in 1906, Foust became the acting president for the year following his colleague's death. Foust served as the official president until his retirement in 1934.

Abstract Charles Duncan McIver was born on September 27, 1860 in Moore County, North Carolina. After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1881 and began teaching in Durham and Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
