Biographical or Historical Information

The Arts Forum, which began in 1944, was designed to bring together those interested in the various arts in order to promote their understanding and appreciation. The Arts Forum was sponsored by the School of Music, Departments of Art and English, the Physical Education Department, and by the following undergraduate groups: Playlikers, Young Composers Club, Quill Club, and Glee Club. The forum was mainly centered around the creative activities of students from high schools and colleges throughout the southeastern United States.; Student work in art and writing, dance and theatre were the principal areas for discussion. The event also hosted professionals in the fields of writing, music, dance, and textile design who gave presentations in there respective genres.

Abstract

The Arts Forum, which began in 1944, was designed to bring together those interested in the various arts in order to promote their understanding and appreciation. The forum was mainly centered around the creative activities of students from high schools and colleges throughout the southeastern United States.

The collection consists of 22 original music manuscripts dating from 1946 to1949 which were created by students of The Woman's College and performed at the annual Arts Forum held at the college each year.
