Biographical / Historical

The Lindsay Family originated in Scotland and immigrated to the United States (date unknown). Family members first moved to Pennsylvania and Maryland but later migrated south to North Carolina. The Lindsay family was one of the founding families of Greensboro. Robert Lindsay originally settled about 12 miles from current day Greensboro. He represented Guilford County in the first House of Commons in 1776. He and his wife raised six boys and two girls. Robert Lindsay Jr., one of his eight children, was born in 1776 and was about four years old when the battle of Guilford Courthouse was fought nearby his home. He later married Letitia Harper and the two had three sons and two daughters, one of whom was named Robert Goodloe Lindsay.
