Biographical / Historical

Edna Andrews Weston of Wilkes County, North Carolina, a career nurse, served in the Navy Nurse Corps from January 1944 to October 1946.

Edna Andrews Weston grew up on a farm in Wilkes County, North Carolina, and graduated from Wilkesboro High School in 1937. She went to nurses training at Davis Hospital in Statesville, North Carolina, from 1939 to 1942, and then continued to work there until January 1944, when she joined the Navy Nurse Corps.

Weston received training in Portsmouth, Virginia, for four months, before being transferred to the naval base in Charleston, South Carolina. A year later, in Weston was sent to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, to be a dietitian for six months. Her last duty station was in San Diego, California, where she became a supervisor in the Naval Hospital. Weston was discharged in October 1946.

For two years, Weston worked at a veterans hospital in Fayetteville, North Carolina. She then married Carlyle Weston, settled in Statesville, and returned to Davis Hospital. She and her husband had three children. In 1959, they moved to Boomer, North Carolina, and Weston took a job at Blackwater Hospital until retiring in 1985.
