Biographical / Historical
Janet Hughes was born in Kittanning, Pennsylvania, on 1911 November 23. Born to Roy and Nell Bowser, Hughes had three brothers and three sisters. She graduated from Penn State and went on to serve as a Dietician in the military. Hughes ran a "Mess Hall" for several years and also cooked at a pilot training school in Georgia.
Later she joined the Army/Air Force and met her husband, Blake Hughes, who served in the Army as a engineer. Hughes lived in many places during her life, including: Three Rivers California, Venezuela, Peru, Michigan, and many more.
Hughes was a master hand-weaver and could create anything from baby blankets, ponchos, and even dresses. At one time, she had six to seven looms for weaving. She passed away at the age of 100 on 2012 January 22.
