Biographical / Historical
Helen Hunt Jackson (1830-1885), born Helen Maria Fiske, was an American writer, poet, and activist for improving the United States government's treatment of Native Americans.
The collection is comprised of one letter written by Jackson to Mr. Laughlin, believed to be Harvard economist James Laurence Laughlin. In the letter, written in 1881, Jackson is requesting Laughlin's support in gathering signatures from Harvard professors for a petition demanding justice for Native Americans.
