Biographical / Historical
This association, founded in 1974, includes all graduates from the Department of Library and Information Science at UNCG. An executive board, consisting of a president, vice-president, past president, secretary, and treasurer, governs the association. This board typically meets every eight to twelve weeks. The primary function of the association is to sponsor and organize events for alumni throughout the year, including receptions and luncheons. In addition, the association presents awards, provide mentorship through alumni, serve as practicum supervisors, and support the department goals. The UNCG LIS Alumni Newsletter is published twice every year, in the fall and spring. These contain information about individual alumni, upcoming events, and the LIS department in general. All alumni are considered full members, and as such, the association depends on financial support from alumni and three endowment programs: the Mary Frances Johnson Scholarship, the M. Sangster Parrott Fellowship Fund, and the Cora Paul Bomar Lecture Fund.
