Biographical Note
Ruth Cambric Kropp enlisted in the WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service - Navy) in October 1942. She trained at the Midshipmen's School at Smith College in Northampton, Mass., graduating as Ensign in January 1943. Kropp was then sent to Lambert Field in St. Louis, Mo., where she did communication and decoding work. She was promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade and later to Lieutenant. In January 1944, Kropp was ordered to the air naval station at Olathe, Kan., as an air transport officer. Six months later orders took her to Port Columbus, Ohio. Kropp was discharged in November 1944.
