Scope and Contents

This collection contains the material that was created by and collected by the Department of Media Relations at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). The records reflect the offices' responsibility of providing information to the University and to the general public about the intercollegiate athletics programs at UNCG. Previously, the department was known as the Sports Information Department.

These records contain material related to intercollegiate athletic sports sponsored by UNCG. Sports represented include baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's golf, men's and women's soccer, softball, men's and women's tennis, women's volleyball, and wrestling. The types of material include brochures, correspondence, flyers, handouts, media guides, newsletters, newspaper clippings, posters, programs, and schedules.

Biographical or Historical Information

The Department of Media Relations (previously the Sports Information Department) serves as the publication branch of The University of North Carolina's intercollegiate athletics program. It is responsible for producing brochures, flyers, handouts, media guides, newsletters, and posters related to the various sports program on the campus. Ty Buckner was appointed the first full-time director of the department in 1984 and oversaw the transitions of the University from a Division III to Division I. He resigned in 2010 and was replaced by Cris Belvin in 2011.

Abstract

The Department of Media Relations serves as the publication branch of The University of North Carolina's intercollegiate athletics program.

This collection consists of brochures, correspondence, flyers, handouts, media guides, newsletters, newspaper clippings, posters, programs, and schedules that provide information about the various sports programs at The University of North Carolina.

Arrangement Note

The arrangement scheme for this collection was imposed during processing in the absence of a useable original order. This collection is arranged into eleven series. Series 1 and 11 are arranged in chronological order while Series 2-10 are arranged alphabetically.

Periodically transferred from the Department of Media Relations.
