Biographical or Historical Information

Sewell was born in India in 1919 to English parents. She studied at Cambridge and the Ministry of Education in London.

In 1974, she was appointed the Joe Rosenthal Professor of Humanities at UNCG. She served at UNCG until 1977. Sewell was notable as a poet, literary critic, and religious studies professor.
