Biographical / Historical
Professor Gay E. Cheney was born on April 20, 1933 and passed away on November 29, 2023. She served as the Head of the Dance Department for four years and was a UNCG dance faculty member for twenty years, earning a great deal of awards for her instruction, sitting as the president for the NC Dance Association and vice president of the National Dance Association. While at UNC Greensboro, Dr. Cheney taught improvisation, the creative process, choreography, philosophy of dance, aesthetics and criticism of dance, twentieth-century dance, and courses on “Art as Human Experience,” “Body Wisdom and Art,” and “Ceremony for the Earth.”

Abstract
This collection consists of slides, photos, VHS tapes, cassette tapes, correspondence and teaching materials created throughout Gay Cheney's long and accredited career as the head of the Dance Department at UNCG.
Method of Acquisition
The various materials withing this collection were donated by Gay Cheney in January, 2009.
