Assignment upon arrival was with the Awards and Decorations Branch at the Fleet Marine Force, Pacific (FMFPAC) office completing administration work. During this time, Oliver was sent back to Quantico to attend Woman Officer Leadership course.

When she returned her next duty was as Commanding Officer of the Woman Marine Company. Oliver left the Marine Corps by June 1972.
By 1978, Oliver joined the New York State Division of Military and Naval Affairs (NYARNG) in Buffalo. Her first duty was as Race Relations/Equal Oppurtunity officer and then as a S-1 captain with the Army Reserve Unit in Amherst. Oliver was discharged from NYARNG in 1983.
