Juanita Webster (1918-2002), of Henderson County, North Carolina, a career nurse, served in the Army Nurse Corps from 1942 to 1945. She later worked in hospitals in Louisiana and Texas and with Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals.

Juanita Webster was born in Henderson County, North Carolina. She graduated from high school in 1934 and worked three years in a hosiery mill before beginning nurse's training in 1938 at Gallinger Municipal Hospital (now D.C. General Hospital) in Washington, D.C. After completing her training in 1941, Webster worked briefly as a private duty nurse before volunteering for the army shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor. In January of 1942, Webster enlisted in the Army Nurse Corps (ANC) and was sent to Fort Belvoir, Virginia.

She then traveled on the SS Parker to her assignment at the 153rd Station Hospital in Brisbane, Australia. Her unit was transferred to New Guinea, outside of Port Moresby, in August of 1942. They returned to Australia, this time to Southport, in late 1942. In May of 1943, she married Douglas J. Webster, a serviceman in her unit in Brisbane. She returned to the United States in fall of 1944 and was sent to Dallas, Texas. She transferred to Harmon General Hospital in Longview, Texas, to attend nurse anesthesia school.

In December of 1945, she was discharged from the ANC as a first lieutenant. Webster and her husband lived briefly in Crane, Texas, and in Utah before moving to Louisiana. There she attended school on the GI Bill at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. After completing school, she worked at Charity Hospital in Lafayette, Louisiana.

She and her husband later returned to Texas, where she worked at Baylor University Hospital for six years. In the early 1970s, she went to work for the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals. She was actively involved in Veterans of Foreign Wars and was once post commander in Texas." Webster passed away in 2004.
