Biographical / Historical

Carolyn F. Dominik (b. 1950), of Queens, New York, served in the United States Air Force Nurse Corps from 1973-1993. She retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

Carolyn F. Dominik was born in 1950 in Queens, New York and raised there and in New Hyde Park, Long Island, New York. Her father's work caused her family to move to Greensboro, North Carolina, and she attended UNC Greensboro for college, graduating with a nursing degree. During her senior year of college, she signed up for two years in the United States Air Force after graduation.

Dominik went to Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas for basic training in 1973, entering service as a first lieutenant. Her first assignment was at Lackland Air Force Base, in San Antonio, Texas, where she remained for two years, attending flight school at Sheppard Air Force Base during that assignment. She was then assigned to Hahn Air Force Base in Germany (Now Frankfurt-Hahn Airport, a civilian facility), where she met her future husband, married, and had her first child.

Upon returning to the United States, she was assigned to Altus, Oklahoma as a charge nurse, where she remained from 1977 through 1982. Dominik's next assignment was to Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, Washington, where she worked in education staff development and also obtained her master's degree in health promotion education from Whitworth College (now Whitworth University)"

Her final assignment was to March Air Force Base, from 1986 through 1993, during which time she was promoted to lieutenant colonel, and after which she retired. Dominik also mentions having been deployed to Landstuhl, Germany as part of Operation Desert Storm, which occurred from 1990-1991, and thus her deployment would have occurred during her assignment to March Air Force Base.
