Colonel Amie Modigh (1933-2017), of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, served in the Army Nurse Corps Reserves from 1967 to 1995.

Amie Modigh was born in Stockholm, Sweden on 13 July, 1933 and she graduated in 1957 with a degree in nursing from the University of Connecticut. She was employed as a nurse and instructor at Cornell Medical Center in New York City, and became an American citizen in 1960. She moved to Chapel Hill, North Carolina in 1964 to complete her master's degree in nursing from the University of North Carolina [UNC].

Modigh became an instructor at UNC's nursing school upon graduation. Modigh joined the army reserves with the rank of captain in 1967 after a friend encouraged her to visit the 3274th United States Army Hospital Unit at Womack Army Hospital in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. In 1968 she asked to go to basic training in order to have a better understanding of the military, which she attended at Fort Sam in Houston, Texas. Following basic training she remained with the unit at Fort Bragg until she took a new civilian job setting up a teaching nursing home for Saint Louis University in 1983. There she joined the army reserve unit at 21st General Hospital in Saint Louis, Missouri as a colonel. In 1986 she moved to Richmond, Virginia to become the chief of geriatric services for Veterans Affairs [VA] and to be the chief nurse for the Army Reserve's General Office Command [GOCOM] unit in charge of all of the army reserve units in Delaware, Maryland and Virginia.

In 1991 her reserve unit reported to Walter Reed Army Medical Center during Operation Desert Storm. She was the chief nurse in charge of all of the 1,998 reservists and National Guard at Walter Reed, on active duty for nine and a half months. Modigh retired from the army reserves in 1995 at the rank of colonel, and from the VA in 2001. Modigh died 21 October 2017.
