Scope and Contents
Cole describes his reasons for enrolling at UNCG as a male African-American student, dormitory and off-campus living and the gender and race discrimination he experienced. He discusses city-wide and campus unrest during the civil rights era, especially upon the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. He talks about campus traditions and being a part of the formation of the first men's basketball team. He says that he would not change his choice of college even though the challenges he faced were great. Subjects: Being one of the first men on campus, living off campus because there were no men's dorm on campus, the atmosphere he found on campus as a male and minority student, breaking into the "old girl" network, joining the Black Student Union, the cafeteria workers' strike.
