He discusses the evolution of the faculty, curriculum and leadership of the department of history and the administrative styles of Chancellors James S. Ferguson and Otis A. Singletary and Vice Chancellor Mereb Mossman. He describes the campus upheavals of the early seventies--student activism, the Neo-Black Society and cafeteria workers' strike--and the establishment of the Residential College. Biographical Note
Robert Calhoon (1935- ) began teaching history at UNCG (The University of North Carolina at Greensboro), formerly The Woman's College of the University of North Carolina, in 1964. He retired in 2008 as full professor, after receiving the UNCG Alumni Teaching Excellence Award and the Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award from the governor of North Carolina.
