Scope and Contents
This diary belonged to Katie Pierce, an older woman living with relatives. The first half details life in Lancaster, Massachusetts. Entries provide information about social calls, housework, physical ailments, Sabbath School, sweing , berrying parties, quilting bees, going to hear a missionary from Africa speak, and town gatherings. Other towns mentioned in the first half include South Lancaster, Clinto, and Berry Hill.
The second half of the diray detail life after Pierce moves to Vermont. Entries include picking fruit and nuts, harvesting the garden, washing, ironing, mending, visiting in the towns of South Royalton, West Harford, Sharon, Hartland, and Woodstock.
