Scope and Contents

The diary begins on June 17, 1925 as Pearl McDermid begins her trip with two friends. Pearl McDermid is about 20 or 21 years old. The group travels throughout the western states visitng places such as the Badlands (North Dakota), Yellowstone, Wenachee National Forest, Mt. Rainer, Point Defiance, Mt. Hood, Chinatown (San Francisco), Red Wood National Park, Hollywood, Los Angeles, Venice Beach (California), Mojave Desert, and Tijuana (Mexico).

During their travels, the group goes camping, dancing, meets cowboys, visit casinos in addition to sightseeing at popular tourist attractions along their travel route.

Perl McDermid was the daughter of Angus McDermid (Canadian immigrant). Her mother was a Norweign immigrant.
