The Allen Trelease Papers span the 1980s to 2005 and consist of photographs for the book Changing Assignments and research materials, manuscripts, and correspondence for the book Making North Carolina Literate.

The photographs included in this collection are ones Dr. Trelease used in his book Changing Assignments: A Pictorial History of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro among others he did not use or deemed inadequate. As for the materials pertaining to Making North Carolina Literate: The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, from Normal School to Metropolitan University, there are research materials Dr. Trelease collected on the history of the university, four versions/manuscripts of the work, and general correspondence librarians, the chancellor, etc., as well as specific correspondence between him and his editor/publisher at the Carolina Academic Press.
