During this time, Daisy worked at the Map Service in Washington D.C. She considers signing up for the Red Cross or WAAC. "The tables have turned. The war time woman has come into her own."- discusses the image of women in war in Time and other advertisements [May 17, 1943]. Daisy continues interviews for a new job and is not impressed with the Red Cross interview [June 13, 1943]. By her Christmas 1943 letter, she has joined the Red Cross at American University.
