Biographical / Historical
United States Office of War Information (OWI) operated from June 1942 until September 1945. OWI was the communication connection between the battlefront and civilians. They produced radio broadcasts, newspapers, posters, photographs, films, and other forms of media. The overseas branches of OWI launched a large-scale information and propaganda campaign abroad. The OWI was known to censor films or other media that reflected negatively on the United States.
The poster in this collection was created by the War Manpower Commission, which was charged with maintaining necessary manpower for U.S. agriculture, industry, and the armed forces.
