Scope and Contents

Contains correspondence, newspaper articles, a 1985 Woolworth menu, and a typescript by Harris. Chapters 1 to 14 of the typescript include a chronology of the events that occurred at the Greensboro Woolworth store from February 1, 1960 to July 26, 1960. In chapters 15 to 20, Harris writes about the myriad responses to desegregation of the lunch counter; his own participation; legal, ethical and economic aspects of the sit-ins; and long-term results. In chapter 21 Harris discusses why the sit-ins started at the Greensboro store. Also included are a chronology of Woolworth's retail progress, a 1985 Woolworth's Menu, and partial, annotated blueprints of the Greensboro Woolworth's store.
