Biography

Nancy Edmunds Hannah was born in Lynchburg, Virginia on December 6, 1925, to Thomas Barksdale Edmunds and Isabel Bouldin Edmunds. She graduated from E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg and graduated from Woman's College (now UNC Greensboro) in 1946 with a degree in sociology.

On December 28, 1946, Nancy married Walter Lewis Hannah and the couple moved to Lexington, Virginia, where she taught for one year before taking a position assisting with student career testing at Washington and Lee University. Walter and Nancy moved to Raleigh, N.C., in February 1950, where they became active in White Memorial Presbyterian Church, then in 1953, they moved to Greensboro.

Nancy was a dedicated and active member of First Presbyterian Church, the Greensboro Junior League. She served on several community boards, including those of the Central YMCA, the Volunteer Action Center and Retired Senior Volunteer Program, and the TB Association. She remained an active alumna of UNCG throughout her life serving on commencement and reunion committees and as a member of the Friends of the Library.
