Biography

Claire Hartsook Boyce was born on April 28, 1912, to Clara Hendrix Hartsook and Charles Henry Hartsook.

Boyce graduated in 1933 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from Woman's College (now UNC Greensboro, where she taught physical education and was May Queen. She was also Miss Greensboro and president of the NC Federation of Women' Clubs, taught in local schools and the old Cone YMCA.

Boyce became interested in horses after working at Camp Yonahlossee, where her grandfather kept his horses. Boyce continued working with horses throughout her life at her Little Bit Pony Farm. Boyce was given the Lifetime Achievement Award by the NC Hunter-Jumper Association, the Sportsmanship Award at the Blowing Rock Horse Show, and the Pegasus Medal by the USEF. She was a judge, steward and manager in the horse show world.

Boyce was married to Russell Carlton Boyce and William Dailey and had three children. She died on August 25, 2008.
