Abstract Nathanael Greene (1742-1786) served as Brigadier General in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. Greene distinguished himself in many battles, but is most famous for forcing the British commander Cornwallis into a costly attack at Guilford Courthouse in North Carolina on March 15, 1781.
