Carolyn Maness and Jean Gordon Papers

Abstract

Carolyn Maness graduated from the Women's College (UNCG) in 1946 and Jean Gordon taught at UNCG as Associate Professor of History from 1964 to 1994. In the fall of 1999 they organized a preservation campaign to halt the demolition of the UNCG Chancellor's House.

The Carolyn Maness and Jean Gordon Papers date 1999-2004 and contain research materials, correspondence, newspaper clippings and photographs that document the efforts to save the Chancellor's House.

Abstract

A collection of 5 blue prints, 18 drawings, and 1 sepia print created by Warren Henry Manning from 1902-1920. Warren Henry Manning (1860-1938) was a landscape designer, landscape architect, and regional planner from Reading Massachusetts. From 1901 to 1921, Manning corresponded and consulted with Presidents Charles D. McIver and Julius I. Foust about the landscape plans for the campus. He was named the official landscape architect of the college in 1909.
