Pearl Harbor Letter
Three page letter typewritten dated December 13, 1941 from Honolulu signed by Ella that describes the day of the attack on Pearl Harbor. She worked at the hospital as a nurse on the base and watched the enemy planes fly "directly over the Hospital, then turn and some bombs fell about a half block from here." She then describes the scene left behind and says there is lots to do and though things do not look good on the island it is not going to get her down.

Earlier letters identify his location as Chicago and some of the later letters mention being stationed in England. The letter dated August 18, 1942 mentions that he is preparing the barracks for the arrival of the WAACs to Fort Des Moines and includes a newspaper clipping about the WAAC barracks.
