Abstract Raymond J. Gariglio came to UNCG in 1966 as a Professor of Music and became the bandmaster for all UNCG performing band ensembles. In 1969, he established the UNCG Jazz Ensemble, the first university-accredited jazz ensemble in North Carolina. A native of Illinois, Gariglio established himself as a premier clarinetist and musician in both the classical and jazz worlds of Chicago in the 1960s, performing as first clarinet and featured soloist for such major ensembles as the Lyric Opera...

Abstract

A collection of 77 color Kodak photographs measuring between 3.5'x5" and 5"x7", without captions. The photographs were taken by an audeience member at the 1970 Monterey Jazz Festival. The images show the groups jamming, watching other performers, and smiling at the crowds.
