Abstract

Organized in 1898 and federated in 1902, the Friday Afternoon Club gathers for lectures and joint intellectual scholarship. According to a history of the club prepared by several members in 1979, the founding members were integral in establishing the Greensboro Public Library.

The collection serves to record the activities of the club and its members by means of meeting minutes, yearbooks/programs and various other materials.

Abstract The Tar Heel Garden Club was established in Greensboro, North Carolina on November 8, 1954, with the intent to 1) stimulate the knowledge and love of gardening, 2) encourage the beautification of grounds and garden, 3) aid whenever possible in the preservation of native trees, wild flowers, birds and animals, 4) encourage civic planters, and 5) work in conjunction with other Garden Clubs in the city.
