A personal selection of verses written in the hand of Eliza Cleaney. The front cover displays a nice example of penmanship and includes the title, "Miss Eliza Cleaney's Book of written Poetry Selected by herself at New Richmond Female School, Sarah Anne Mollyneaux, Instructress, March 4th, 1828". Includes 17 poems selected by Eliza Cleaney, some attributed to various writers, and probably written as examples of penmanship.

This collection includes six original letters and one carbon copy of a letter. The four early letters (1914-1915, 1922) reflect routine matters dealing with the student loan fund. The three letters dated 1933 and 1936 show President Foust's concern for the Mary Foust Loan Fund and the problems involved with the construction of the Alumnae House.

Scope and Contents From the Collection: The 173 letters in this collection were typed in September, 1945 from microfilm of the Bancroft Transcript of the Nathanael Greene Letter Book owned by the New York Public Library. The microfilm was obtained by Charles S. Marshall of the National Park Service, and a letter from Marshall written at Guilford Courthouse National Military Park and dated September 20, 1945 states that the generosity of the Woman's College (now UNCG) Library enabled him to complete its transcription....

Harraden begins this essay, an appeal for the Children's Jewel Fund, by writing: "When I was asked lately to write one of these appeals...my mind wandered back to the beginning of the war when at one of the Belgian refugee concentration camps in Holland...

The letter in this collection, dated January 30, 1943 is written to Mary L. Becker of the New York Herald Tribune. Written in response to her request for "a collection of authentic Irish romances in an inexpensive edition," Colum suggests that "Ancient Irish Romances, edited by Professor Cross of Chicago University and Mr. Slover, and published by Henry Holt, fills the bill".

Guiney tells him: "I am afraid that the 'Monsieur Henri' books, ordinary 12 mo. but bound in Chollet plaid, are by now, absolutely unobtainable. There were but fifty of them".
