Dr. Jill Green's faculty papers, including teaching materials, annual review/tenure packets, publications, and conference materials. It also contains A/V materials of dance performances directed and choreographed by Dr. Green.

Dr. Jill Green is a retired professor of dance (somatics) at UNC Greensboro. Dr. Green joined the faculty of UNC Greensboro in 1993, and is a pioneer in the area of body/mind somatic research and the originator of Social Somatic Theory.

Abstract

Jill Green was a professor in the Department of Dance at UNCG from 1993 to 2019 and served as the Director of Graduate Studies in that department from 2008 to 2015. She received her M.A. in Dance and Dance Education from New York University in 1981 and recieved her PhD in Somatic Studies and Movement Arts from The Ohio State University in 1993. Green taught dance in the New York City Public School system from 1981 to 1989.

Green presented her research at conferences in the United States, Canada, Finland, Taiwan, South Africa, Brazil, and Japan. She was a 2003 Fulbright Scholar and conducted research at the Theatre Academy of Finland. She is the originator of Social Somatic Theory and a master teacher of Kinetic Awareness. Green also served as co-editor of the journal Dance Research.

The Jill Green Papers contains materials related to Green's career at UNCG. The collection contains her teaching materials, annual review/tenure packets, publications, and conference materials.

The collection is arranged in four series: Course Materials, Faculty Materials, Conferences, and A/V Materials. Each series is arranged either alphabetically or chronologically.
