Scope and Contents

This collection contains Sullivan's personal papers, along with a few photos and UNCG memorabilia. However, the majority of the collection is made up of artifacts, which were either gifts or awards. Many of these gifts are from all over the world, from Sullivan's travels to other schools.

Biographical / Historical

Patricia A. Sullivan was Chancellor of UNCG from January 1, 1995 to July of 2008. Chancellor Sullivan began her work as a teacher at Wells College in New York and Texas Women’s University. From here she began climbing the ranks and found herself a dean at Salem College in Winston Salem, NC in 1981. It was after this job that Sullivan found herself the Chancellor of UNCG in 1995. Chancellor Sullivan would then serve UNCG for 13 years, making her the longest tenured chancellor in the UNC system. Sadly, Sullivan would pass away only a year after retirement from pancreatic cancer.

Abstract

Patricia A. Sullivan was the ninth Chancellor of UNCG, but was the first female to hold this position. This collection attempts to serve as a living memory of Chancellor Sullivan. The contents in this collection consist of some of the following categories: photos, Sullivan’s personal notes and papers, Women’s College memorabilia, correspondence, and artifacts.
