Biographical or Historical Information
Daphine Doster was born in Monroe, North Carolina, in 1906. She graduated from the North Carolina College for Women in 1927, with a major in music. After teaching music in the public schools of North Carolina for several years, she entered Johns Hopkins School of Nursing in 1933 and received her degree in 1936.
Doster was a member of the Army Nurse Corps during World War II, and served in the South Pacific. She received a master's degree in public health from the University of Minnesota in 1947. During her career, she held positions at Johns Hopkins, Berea College (Kentucky), the University of Arkansas, and with the US Public Health Service (1950-1970).

Abstract
Daphine Doster was a 1927 alumna of the North Carolina College for Women (now UNCG). She was later a nurse in the Army Nurse Corps during World War II and afterwards at Johns Hopkins, Berea College, the University of Arkansas, and the US Public Health Service.

Method of Acquisition
Box 1 given by Daphine Doster to the School of Nursing, 1988; later transferred to the University Archives as part of the Historical Nursing Collection. Boxes 2-4 given by Doster and transferred to the University Archives by Dr. Patricia Chamings, December 1989. Boxes 5-6 received from Dr. Rachel Allred, August 1993 and from Marlene Hansen, 1995.
