This collection contains the official records that reflect the functions and activities of the Department of Finance of the Joseph M. Bryan School of Business from 1985 to 1995. These records contain annual reports which were prepared yearly by the head of the Department for the Office of the Provost and general files including faculty meetings, course proposals and memorandums.

Biographical or Historical Information

The Department of Finance was established in 1985 when the Department of Business Administration split into two separate units. Donald Jud was named head of the department.

In 1985, the Risk and Insurance Society was reorganized as the Finance, Insurance, and Real Estate Society (FIRES). The goal of the group was to provide an organization through which undergraduate students could interface with business leaders. Ms. Laura Green was FIRES first president, and Joe Johnsons and Don Jud served as faculty advisors. At the end of the year, FIRES has more than 30 active members.

In 1989, an informal Departmental Advisory Board was established for the first time to assist the department in foster closer relations with the business community and enhancing the educational opportunities of students. In 1990,the Department was rated among the top 25 departments in the country for research in the area of risk management and insurance in a study published in the Journal of Risk Management and Insurance.

In August 1993, Professor Donald McCrickard became acting Department Head, succeeding Professor Donald Jud.

In the Fall of 1995, the Department of Finance merged with the Department of Management and Marketing to form the Department of Business Administration.

Abstract

The Department of Finance of the Joseph M. Bryan School of Business and Economics was founded in 1985. It was responsible for the University's undergraduate and graduate curricula in finance.

The records of the Department of Finance contains annual reports and general files which document the activities of the Department of Finance from 1985-1995.

Arrangement Note

The arrangement scheme for this collection was imposed during processing in the absence of a useable original order. This collection is arranged into three series with each series arranged alphabetically. Within each folder, documents are arranged in chronological order. Series 1: Annual Reports, 1985-1995 Series 2: General Files, 1985-1991
