Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

This collection documents the activities of the Vice Chancellor of the Division of Student Affairs and the departments that comprise the division. Spanning from 1937–2018, the materials in this collection have been arranged into seven series: Annual Reports (1972–2010), Committees (1968–2010), General Files (undated–2018), Newsletters (1937–2007), Policies and Regulations (1968–2009), Reviews and Plans (1973–1999), and Surveys (1975–2009). Annual Reports are arranged in chronological order; the remaining series are arranged in alphabetical order. The items’ arrangement within each folder reflects the original order.

Over the years, the Division of Student Affairs has housed departments that have either evolved or been disbanded.

Series 1, Annual Reports (1972–2010), contains the annual reports for the myriad departments within the Division of Student Affairs.

Series 2, Committees (1968–2010), includes correspondence, meeting minutes, reports, and other materials for the numerous committees, taskforces, and action groups, such as the Taskforce to Study and Promote Women’s Leadership Skills, the Division of the Student Affairs has supported and utilized.

Series 3, General Files (undated–2018), is the largest series in the collection. Series 3 includes correspondence, meeting minutes, reports, news clippings, photographs, data, and other types of materials. The materials in Series 3 cover various topics, issues, and departments within the Division of Student of Affairs. Materials about building renovations, campus safety, marginalized student populations, fraternities and sororities, student life, residence halls, Title IX, and women’s programming are just some of the topics, issues, and departments that can be found within Series 3.

The following newsletters can be found within Series 4, Newsletters (1937–2007): Family Matters (1994–2007), It’s Been Said... (2000–2004), Link (1997), Linkline (1990–1996), Network (1988–1992), Students First (1997–1998), Summer Times (1937–1951), Woman’s Place II (1979–1981), Women’s Programs (1986–1987).

From policies on bomb threats to academic integrity to alcoholic beverages, Series 5, Policies and Regulations (1968–2009), includes materials that allow researchers to not only read some of UNCG’s former and current policies, but also the materials that provide insight into how those policies were written.

Series 6, Reviews and Plans (1973–1999), includes CAS Reviews, five-year plans, and long-range plans for the departments within the Division of Student Affairs.

The final series, Surveys (1975–2009), includes surveys about students’ needs, campus climate, students’ perceptions of UNCG, and campus safety measures.

Through this collection, researchers can gain insight into how the Vice Chancellor of the Division of Student Affairs and the division have supported students, faculty, staff, parents, and families over the years.
