Scope and Contents
Diary of Cynthia Jones (Hawkes) Earle, a Quaker in Cranston, Providence County, Rhode Island. Cynthia Earle was born in China, Kennebec County, Maine in 1831 and married Charles William Earle in 1853. The couple had four children. The diary starts when the four Earle children are young and entries trace their transiton into adulthood. Two children become teachers, one a physician, and another goes into the jewelry business. Entries also indicates the education of the Earle children. Several entries are religious in nature and describe church-related activities in addition to recounting local news.
