Scope and Contents
This scrapbook, created by the representatives of the Class of 1950 of Woman’s College of the University of North Carolina (now The University of North Carolina at Greensboro), contains materials relating to the freshman through senior years of the Class of 1950. Photographs depict student life, individual students, senior students wearing class jackets, the Senior Show, dances, Phi Beta Kappa students, May Day court with view of the lake, a party with Walter Clinton Jackson, and the “Helpless and Griddle” puppet show. The scrapbook also contains programs for several events: the Cinderella Ball, Sleigh Bell Formal, Junior-Senior Ball, the University Sermon, the Social Science Forum, the International Student Conference, the Arts Forum, the Dolphin-Seal Club, “Gullible Travels," and “I Remember Mama." Numerous newspaper articles are included, relating to school activities, dances, elections, productions, student honors, campus construction, and a class project. The scrapbook also includes class song lyrics, a class jacket manufacturer advertisement, ephemera from Sophomore-Senior Apache party, a script for the “Helpless and Griddle” puppet show, and invitations for the Cinderella Ball, Sleigh Bell Formal, and Junior-Senior Ball. Also included is correspondence from Walter Clinton Jackson thanking the class for the retirement party and wrist watch that they gave him. The pages in the scrapbook are decorated with drawings and ephemera.
