Debra W. Stewart was appointed interim Chancellor of The University of North Carolina at Greensboro in August 1994 upon the retirement of William E. Moran. She served in this role until January 1995, when Patricia A. Sullivan took office as Chancellor. Stewart came to UNCG temporarily while serving as graduate dean and then vice provost at North Carolina State University (1988-1998). Stewart received her Ph.D. in Political Science from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, her master's degree in government from the University of Maryland, and her B.A. from Marquette University where she majored in philosophy and political science.
