This collection includes correspondence from Private Jack Nowlin to his mother from 1942 to 1945. Earlier letters identify his location as Chicago and some of the later letters mention being stationed in England. The letter dated August 18, 1942 mentions that he is preparing the barracks for the arrival of the WAACs to Fort Des Moines and includes a newspaper clipping about the WAAC barracks.
