Abstract Helen Elizabeth Clapp was born on December 5, 1905, and was the daughter of David Carr and Lula Henrietta Anderson Clapp. She grew up in Greensboro and attended Greensboro High School. She graduated from the North Carolina College for Women (now UNCG) in 1927 with a B.A. in English.
