Abstract Mary Dail (married name Mary Dail Dixon) was the first student to enroll in the North Carolina State Normal and Industrial School for Women. She received her teaching certificate in 1894. She lived in Wake County and began a highly successful business baking and selling cakes. She published a cookbook on baking cakes titled "Baking Cakes with You."
